I started singing when I was seven years old with the Central California Children’s Choir in Fresno. Later, it became Pro Voce (which is Italian for “To Sing”) and I sang with them for several years.
When I was with CCCC/Pro Voce I was in two operas with the Fresno Grand Opera. I was in the children’s chorus in Otello and
Turendot, and I remember that the whole experience was just amazing. I think that seeing the opera and having a chance to be in it was one of the things that helped me to decide that when I grew up I wanted to be a singer.
Later I joined the Bach Children’s choir, and sang with them for a year. For several years, I studied voice privately with Eileen Farrell, focusing mostly on Italian art songs. Now I am taking lessons from Charlotte Garcia, but concentrating more on musical theater songs. Over the years I have been in Annie, Les Miserables, and Highlights from Wicked with the TCOE Theater Department, and am looking forward to performing as the Mother Swan in Honk Jr. this November. I have performed twice at the annual Redbud festival in Three Rivers, and this will be my third time performing at Concert on the Grass.
I live in Visalia, California, with my parents, grandmother, sister, and pets. I am homeschooled, but I attend Eleanor Roosevelt Community Learning Center two days a week. This year I am taking some algebra and English classes, as well as a drama workshop. I’m thirteen years old and I am starting eighth grade this year. I spend most of my time at home doing schoolwork, cleaning my very messy room, reading, playing with the cats, singing, listening to music, or making jewelry. I also love to spend time in the swimming pool or with my friends.
In the future, I would like to become a professional singer. Both Broadway and opera would be fun, and I sing both right now. I haven’t yet decided which I would rather accomplish, but I know that I would like to have a career in music. I am very grateful for all of the support that I have had over the years, and can’t wait for the chance to sing for you later this month.
