Harry Ison  is a native of Virginia.  He grew up in the Appalachian Mountains of Kentucky where he studied piano from age five through high school.  He received his MD degree from the University of Louisville, and  practiced medicine in Long Beach and Three Rivers until he retired in 1983.

In the summer of 1982 Harry was inspired to move his piano out on the lawn and invite some friends over for a couple of beers and some live piano music. They had such a great time that they did it again the following year, and every year thereafter. From those humble beginnings emerged the preeminent Three Rivers annual summer cultural event.

Harry hosted the Concert on the Grass for twenty years before moving to Bellingham, Washington.  He still visits Three Rivers occasionally, and is always pleased to hear about the people and events from his former home town of many years.
